For Tutors

What equipment do I need to start tutoring?

A computer, webcam, headset, and stable internet connection are all you need.

No special software is required — lessons run entirely in the browser. That said, the right equipment will significantly improve your students' experience.

Essential equipment

  • ·Computer — laptop or desktop (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  • ·Webcam — 1080p minimum (many modern laptops have this built in).
  • ·Microphone — a USB headset with noise cancellation is strongly recommended.
  • ·Internet — 15 Mbps+ download and 10 Mbps+ upload for stable HD video.

Nice to have

  • ·A second monitor — so you can have the classroom on one screen and your materials on another.
  • ·A drawing tablet — useful for language tutors who write characters or math tutors working with equations.
  • ·A ring light — dramatically improves your on-camera appearance.
  • ·A quiet room with treated acoustics (bookcases help reduce echo).

Run the connection test at fluentforward.com/connection-test before your first lesson to confirm everything is working correctly.
