Do I need to pay taxes on my tutor earnings?

Tutors on Fluent Forward are independent contractors, not employees. This means Fluent Forward does not withhold taxes on your behalf. You are responsible for reporting and paying any applicable taxes in your country.

US tutors

  • ·If you earn over $600 in a calendar year, you will receive a Form 1099-K from Stripe.
  • ·You are responsible for self-employment tax (Social Security and Medicare) in addition to income tax.
  • ·Lesson expenses (equipment, internet, professional development) may be deductible — consult a tax advisor.

International tutors

  • ·Tax requirements vary by country. Consult a local tax professional.
  • ·Fluent Forward issues earnings summaries from your Tutor Dashboard → Payouts → Earnings report for any date range.
  • ·Some countries require VAT registration above a certain income threshold.
